Anyone who plans to visit or travel through Canada must possess a valid travel authorization. Travelers may apply online for a travel authorization if they are a citizen of one of the countries that appears in the list below, and if they hold a valid passport.

Canada eTA Online Visa

The Canada eTA online visa, first implemented in March 2016, is required for travelers with plans to visit or transit through the country. Granted for up to six months, this multiple-entry authorization is valid for five years or until the traveler’s passport expires, whichever comes first.

What is the Canada online visa?

The Canada online visa, also known as the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), is a mandatory travel requirement implemented by the Canadian government in 2016. Possessing an eTA authorizes eligible foreign nationals to travel to and enter Canada for tourism and leisure, short-term visits, and business-related activities. Stays can be granted for a maximum of six months and the authorization is valid for five years or until the passport expires (whichever comes first). The eTA is a multiple-entry visa that authorizes the traveler to enter Canada as many times as they wish during the period that it is valid.

Citizens from the following countries are eligible to apply for an online ETA. If you do not hold a passport from one of the eligible countries, you have to contact the Australian Mission related to the Visa department and apply for a Visitor Visa (subclass 600).
